Zoo Commission
The Zoo Commission acts as an advisory committee to assure a balanced program of education conservation, and recreation for the Delmarva Peninsula. The Zoo shall be maintained operated, and designed for certification by USDA and accreditation AZA. Meets the third Wednesday of each month at noon in the Salisbury Zoo Education Building.
Calling all community members! The City of Salisbury’s Zoo Commission is currently recruiting new members for three-year terms. Do you love animals? Are you looking for a way to support one of the best FREE small zoos in the nation? Then this opportunity just might be right for you! We’re looking for a diverse group of people to bring new ideas and perspectives to the table.
The Salisbury Zoo Commission is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose purpose is to “assist the City of Salisbury in the operation, management, and promotion of the Salisbury Zoological Park as a wildlife conservation facility for the enjoyment and education of the citizens of the City of Salisbury and the regional area.” The Commission supports the Salisbury Zoo in a myriad of ways, including, but not limited to: retaining persons or organizations to assist in the operation or provide consultation to the Zoo; recommending and funding new exhibits and improvements to the existing Zoo exhibits and grounds in collaboration with the City’s Department of Field Operations; soliciting, organizing, training and managing volunteers for the education program of the Zoo; executing fund raising projects for the Zoo; encouraging public monetary contributions for the Zoo; developing, promoting, funding, and managing publicity programs; managing Corporation funds for the purchase and sale of animals as personal property of the City of Salisbury; collaborating with the professional Zoo staff in the security, care, breeding, acquisition and disposition of the animals; recommending to the Mayor and City Council long term plans and improvements to the Salisbury Zoological Park.”
The Salisbury Zoo Commission is a vital component of the operations of the Salisbury Zoological Park, and the Commission’s funds comprise approximately 35% of the Zoo’s annual operating costs!

The Salisbury Zoo Commission meets for (a free!) lunch every third Wednesday of the month at 11:30am, most often at the Salisbury Zoo Education Building, and Commission meetings directly follow lunch and begin at noon. Members of the Commission are expected to attend all meetings.
In order to serve on the Zoo Commission, the only requirement for membership is that you have a basic interest in the Salisbury Zoological Park! So what are you waiting for? Our furry, scaly, and feathered friends would love to have your input and support!
