The Police Athletic League is a youth crime prevention program that relies on educational, athletic and other recreational activities to cement a bond between police officers and the youth in our community.
The Salisbury Police Department: Police Athletic League (PAL) provides a safe, positive and developing atmosphere for youth ages eight to seventeen. The goal of the program is to emphasize the importance of providing fundamental education in a variety of programs to include academics, athletics, social interaction, nutrition, life skills, the arts and community service.
The National Police Athletics/Activities Leagues, Inc. (National PAL) believe young people, if reached early enough, can effectively increase social-emotional skills, develop positive classroom behavior, increase school attendance and even improve high school graduation rates through structured out-of-school-time initiatives and mentorship.
PAL creates a safe atmosphere where youth can be exposed to athletics, creative activities and enrichment programs. Programs are supervised by PAL Coordinators, PAL Leaders, and includes police and community volunteer involvement, working together to provide positive role models for the members.
Participation in the program is free and is open to residents of Salisbury City between the ages of eight and seventeen. An annual registration is required and must be signed by a parent or guardian.
The Salisbury PAL Program is being coordinated through Sergeant Thomas Hitty of the Salisbury Police Department. The program will be held every Tuesday afternoon from 3:30 pm until 5:00 pm, at the Truitt Street Community Center, located at 319 Truitt St. Salisbury, MD.
