Lead Service Line Inventory
As of 10/16/2024, the City of Salisbury has submitted their Lead Service Line Inventory to the Maryland Department of Environment. The City, in accordance with the Maryland Department of Environment, will be mailing Customer Notification letters if your service line is believed to be lead, galvanized, or an unknown material. If your service line material is unknown, City officials will be in contact within nine months to verify the material. To stay up to date on all Water Works updates, refer back to this webpage or check the City of Salisbury's Facebook page.
In order to protect public health and comply with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead and Copper Rule, the City of Salisbury is creating a lead service line inventory database to identify any existing lead pipes within the city and notify effected residents. The City is asking residents with houses and business built before 1973 to complete the survey at the tab below. The survey will allow the City to better document the material of resident’s water service line from the water meter to just outside of homes and businesses.
The EPA’s treatment technique involves monitoring drinking water at customer taps. In the City of Salisbury, every identified and verified City-owned lead service line has been replaced. If your service line is found to contain lead, the City will replace the service line up to the entry of the home or business. It is the responsibility of the private owner to replace and pay for any lead pipes or fixtures found inside the home or business, if they choose to do so. The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development offers an Indoor Plumbing Program, where grant or loan opportunities may be available for you. Please visit the Grant & Funding Opportunities tab below to learn more.
The most common sources of lead in drinking water are lead pipes and brass or bronze faucets and fixtures. For more information, please visit the EPA Protect Your Tap: A Quick Check for Lead guide below.
