Hydrant Flushing
Overview. Once a year fire hydrant flushing clears the water distribution system of corrosion sediment which would otherwise find its way into the consumer’s household plumbing fixtures. We will flush our water distribution system by letting water out of over 1,300 fire hydrants during a four-day period. We flush at night between the hours of 8 PM and 5 AM to minimize inconvenience to our users. There will be no interruption of service during the actual flushing.
Hydrant Flushing Dates. The Salisbury Public Works Department performs annual water main flushing in the spring or summer. Exact dates will be posted each year as the event draws near. Flushing the City’s public water distribution system is accomplished in four (4) continuous nights between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
Discoloration. Some discoloration of the water supply may occur. If it does, it should clear up quickly and can be facilitated by letting a faucet run for a short while. If discoloration persists, call the City Service Center at (410) 548-3177.
Point of Contact. For questions on hydrant flushing, call the City’s Utility Technician, Ms. Brittany Brown at (410) 548-3170.
