City’s Poet Laureate Set to Host Three More ‘Poetry and Recovery’ Zoom Events

    September 17, 2020

Salisbury- The City is proud to announce the success of last week’s very first session of ‘Poetry and Recovery,’ an online event hosted throughout the month of September by Salisbury’s Poet Laureate, Nancy Mitchell. These online events are conducted by Mitchell with a focus on addiction and the healing process, two subjects in which she writes about in her published book Grief Hut.

Last week’s session featured Jeffrey Skinner, an award-winning American poet, author, playwright, and professor. Sarah Gorham, another great poet, essayist, and founder of her own publishing house, Sarahbande Books, also joined the conversation. Together they edited and published an anthology of poems titled Last Call: Poems of Alcoholism, Addiction, and Deliverance, portions of which they read at last week’s event.

“I have received so much positive feedback about this series and I am confident that these poets are bringing hope and closure to those in our community who have suffered from the fallout of addiction,” shared Salisbury’s Poet Laureate, Nancy Mitchell. “I’m so grateful to be able to continue my outreach through these readings featuring so many locally and nationally recognized poets.”

The next three sessions are set for tonight, 9/17, as well as 9/24 and 9/30, all at 7:00 pm. Tonight we are joined by Doug Anderson, an award-winning poet, writer, and recipient of such accolades as a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and a Pushcart Prize. Tonight’s event will also feature well-known American poet and author of four books of poetry, Patrick Donnelly.

“The City is proud to be doing our part to raise awareness and start meaningful conversations while supporting the Wicomico Goes Purple initiative for the month of September,” shared City Administrator Julia Glanz.

Attendees are asked to pre-register for these events via Eventbrite at https://bit.ly/2Zd2b92 to ensure that they receive the proper Zoom links to participate.
