Beginning Monday, November 10, the City of Salisbury will begin roadway repaving on Market Street in Downtown Salisbury, from South Division Street to Main Street, as part of ongoing work on the Salisbury Urban Greenway. The repaving is expected to be completed by the end of the week, weather permitting.
During construction, no road closures are anticipated. Flaggers will be onsite throughout the duration of the work to assist with traffic flow and ensure public safety. The contractor will be responsible for all pavement markings, including crosswalks, parking spaces and bicycle sharrow symbols.
While City offices will be closed on Tuesday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day, crews are expected to continue working that day to maintain the project timeline.
This repaving follows recent upgrades to sidewalks and curbs along Market Street, which were reconstructed last month with new concrete and ADA-compliant detectable warning surfaces. Downtown Salisbury was selected as the first area to receive these improvements, with additional phases planned in the coming months.
The project part of the City’s long-term effort to create a continuous, accessible east–west route for walking and bicycling through Salisbury. Designed to be comfortable for people of all ages and abilities, the Salisbury Urban Greenway will serve as an iconic public space and regional destination, connecting neighborhoods, businesses and cultural landmarks.
Earlier this year, the Carroll Street Improvement Project, completed over the summer, also contributed to the development of this Greenway network.
