City of Salisbury Seeks Artists for Interactive Public Sculpture at Salisbury City Park

    August 7, 2025

SALISBURY, Maryland —The City of Salisbury is excited to announce a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for a new public sculpture or installation at Salisbury City Park. Local artists, artist teams, students, and emerging creators are encouraged to apply to design a permanent, interactive work that celebrates community, accessibility, and creativity.
“This installation represents another meaningful step in enhancing the beauty of City Park,” says Economic Development Manager Derek Jarmon. “We look forward to seeing a wide range of talented artists apply for this opportunity to leave a lasting and inspiring mark on the City of Salisbury.”
    About the Project
The selected installation will be located at the northwest corner of Salisbury City Park, adjacent to a popular playground and riverfront walking area. The piece should be large-scale, hands-on, and constructed with durable, low-maintenance materials to withstand year-round weather and physical interaction from visitors of all ages.
    Project Details:
    • From the initial submissions, five artists will be selected to develop more in-depth proposals and will each receive a $1,000 stipend.
    • We’re now opening a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for qualified artists to submit concepts for a new freestanding public art piece to be installed at City Park.
    • After the final artist is chosen, the City will apply for the next phase of the grant— a $30,000 Project Grant —to bring the selected design to life.
    Eligibility:
    • Open to individual artists, artist teams, students, and emerging artists.
    • Applicants must be Maryland residents, aged 18 or older, who have owned or rented residential property in Maryland for at least six months prior to applying and throughout the funded project.
    Key Dates:
    • RFQ Opens: August 7, 2025
    • Application Deadline: September 12, 2025
    • Top 5 Semi-Finalists Selected: October 3, 2025
    • Semi-Finalist Presentations: November 7, 2025
    • Final Selection and Contract: November 10, 2025
    How to Apply:
Artists can apply by submitting their resume or CV, up to three images of previous work, a 1–2 page letter of interest, and contact information. Applications will be reviewed by the City’s Technical Advisory Group with community input to ensure the project resonates with Salisbury residents and visitors.
