SALISBURY, Maryland — The City of Salisbury is pleased to announce the return and expansion of its free summer programming designed to support youth engagement, active play, and access to nutritious meals for children and families across the community.
Building on the strong community response and success of last year’s launch, Game On! is returning to Lake Street Playground and expanding this summer to include Doverdale Park and Playground. The addition of Doverdale reflects the program’s popularity and the City’s commitment to bringing engaging, neighborhood-based recreation directly into more communities.
Developed in partnership with City Council President April Jackson, Game On! was created to increase access to structured play and outdoor activities within City parks, helping children stay active, connected, and engaged close to home.
In addition, free lunch for children under 18 will be provided at both Game On! locations Monday through Friday at 12:00 p.m., in partnership with Wicomico County Public Schools Food and Nutrition Services.
The program will officially kick off on June 30, 2026, with kickoff events taking place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at both Lake Street Playground and Doverdale Park and Playground. To celebrate, the kickoff events will feature bounce houses, snacks, and a variety of games and activities for kids to enjoy.
“I’m excited to see these programs grow and reach more young people across our community,” said Community Relations Manager Rachel Manning. “This summer, I hope even more youth will take advantage of the chance to get outside, make new friends, and have fun.”
The City is also highlighting expanded summer programming at the Newton Community Center, which will be open Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. During this time, free lunch will also be served daily at 12:00 p.m. for children under 18. The Newton Community Center continues to serve as a safe, welcoming space for youth during the summer months, offering recreation, connection, and consistent access to meals.
“These programs are an investment in our neighborhoods and our youth,” said Mayor Randy Taylor, “By providing free meals and activities throughout the summer, we are creating more opportunities for children and families right here in Salisbury.”
Together, these programs reflect the City’s ongoing commitment to providing accessible, neighborhood-based opportunities that support youth development, encourage healthy activity, and ensure children have access to meals during the summer season.
