The Salisbury Police Department is part of a select group of law enforcement agencies who have demonstrated professional excellence by participating in the voluntary accreditation process. The Salisbury Police Department is scheduled for an on-line assessment, the first of a four-year process, as part of a program to achieve re-accreditation by verifying it meets all applicable standards set forth by the Commission.
Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedure, administration, operations and support services.
An assessor from CALEA will be conducting an on-line assessment beginning on April 3, 2026, to examine various aspects of the Salisbury Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations and support services as part of the Salisbury Police Department’s continued efforts to maintain its accreditation. Re-accreditation is a multi-year process, including an online assessment each year until 2028, when an on-site assessment will take place as the final step. The Salisbury Police Department is the 45th nationally accredited police agency and has maintained accreditation since 1987.
Agency employees and members of the community are invited to provide comments to the CALEA Assessment Team via CALEA’s online access portal, https://cimrs2.calea.org/497. Information can be anonymous and will be provided to the Chief of Police by the assessment team.
A copy of the standards manual is available at the Salisbury Police Department and may be reviewed by contacting the Accreditation Office. Local contact is MPO Jeffrey Hughes, (410) 548-3165, [email protected].
