SALISBURY, Maryland – The City of Salisbury is pleased to announce the return of Shawanda Garrison as Assistant Director of Finance – Operations. Garrison previously spent eleven years with the City, first serving as an accountant for seven years before advancing to Assistant Director of Finance for four years. She returns with extensive experience in municipal and higher education finance.
“I am excited to be returning to the City of Salisbury after leaving in 2017. First, I want to give thanks to my Lord and Savior—with Him, all things are possible. I believe my education, experience, and personal skills will contribute to the City’s financial and customer service practices. The City will receive my utmost dedication and diligence in accomplishing all goals and tasks set before me,” said Shawanda Garrison.
Since leaving the City in 2017, Garrison has held several key accounting roles, including Executive Director of Financial Services for Delaware State University, Accountant for the City of Harrington, and most recently, Accountant for the Town of Ocean View. Her breadth of experience brings valuable financial leadership back to Salisbury.
Garrison holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Delaware State University. Born and raised in Delaware, she has spent her entire life on the Eastern Shore and currently resides in Bridgeville, Delaware, with her three children.
Current Finance Director Sandy Green shared her anticipation for Garrison’s return: ‘I am looking forward to Shawanda rejoining the City of Salisbury with a fresh perspective and renewed eagerness. She is a seasoned professional with many years of accounting experience, and I am excited for her to contribute to the team once again.
Mayor Randy Taylor also welcomed Garrison back, stating, “Shawanda’s return is a tremendous asset to the City of Salisbury. Her knowledge of municipal finance, coupled with her leadership experience, will help strengthen our financial operations and ensure continued excellence in service to our residents.”
