SALISBURY, Maryland — The City of Salisbury Field Operations crews salted overnight and focused on keeping snow emergency routes clear as we were hit with a second — more manageable — snow overnight Friday and into Saturday morning.
Early assessment is that emergency routes look good, but residents should exercise caution and drive carefully. While even areas that look clear can provide hazards, there are secondary roads in the City where the snow is now laying on top of ice.
But with temperatures rising and expected to be in the 40s on Sunday, overworked crews are getting a bit of a reprieve.
“It looks like this warmer weather will help us out,” Director of Field Operations Mike Dryden said. “Right now we are getting our heavy trucks off the road to keep from packing anything down any more, but with it warming up and the salt that we already have down we are looking good heading into next week. Come Monday, roads will be a lot clearer in residential areas. Thank you to our residents for cooperation and understanding during this week.”
For service calls after normal business hours, please contact the Salisbury Police Department at 410-548-3165. For emergency situations, please dial 911 immediately.
Please remember that property owners adjacent to any street within the City limits are responsible for the removal of snow from their sidewalks. The snow must be removed for the entire length of their property for a width of four feet. The removal must take place within six hours after the snow has stopped falling. If the snow stopped between the hours of 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. then the snow needs to be removed before 2 p.m.
If you live near a fire hydrant, the Salisbury Fire Department urges you to make sure it is accessible with a 4-foot diameter area shoveled around it.
Residents are reminded that when clearing snow from your property or sidewalks you should not blow, shovel or plow it into the streets as that just makes it that much harder to clear them for safe travel.
All important information regarding City snow removal is available on this page of the City website.
